I’ve been filming and editing video in some form for over 20 years. Whether it was as a kid playing with LEGO Studios, or in college making films with my friends under the name Really Good Pictures, or solo work in my spare time, I love making films! You can see my short films in full below, as well as cinematics I’ve filmed:

My Short Films

Sabbath: A Rest for God’s People (2018)

Shot on: Sony a5000

This was my first short film on a mirrorless camera (everything else I’d done was either a phone, or a camera that I wasn’t primary cameraman on). Using no fast lenses and iMovie, this was quite a learning experience for me!

Duel (2021)

Shot on: Sony a6400

This was my older kids’ first real experience acting, and I think they did pretty well! I also got a chance to use a gimbal for the first time, but it was pretty rough. Still pretty happy with it, though.

Duel II (2023)

Shot on: Sony FX30

My first short film on a cinema camera, there was a LOT of learning to do. While I’m happy with the overall result, I can’t watch this without seeing half a dozen things I’d change.

Cinematics

I’ve spent a lot more time working on short cinematics, videos I can work on over the course of a family trip, say, or an afternoon in the woods. I’ve made a number of them, but for the sake of brevity (and storage space!) I will share three of them. If you’re interested in more, you can find them on my YouTube channel.

Scotland (2024)

My wife and I spent our sixteenth anniversary in Perth, Scotland. This was the same location that my ancestors governed hundreds of years ago. I brought my camera to enjoy the scenery, as well as nearby Inverness.

Autumn (2023)

I went to a nearby park in O’Fallon, Missouri and enjoyed the heights of the autumn season. It really was beautiful, and was happy to have my FX30 in hand to test its dynamic range.

The Last Word (2022)

I took my Sony a6400 to Louisville, Kentucky to be a part of the final meeting of Together for the Gospel. That conference really was something special. Of course, there was enough fracturing within the camps that we couldn’t, this side of eternity, really be together for the Gospel, and as time went on it has only become more polarized. But I’m really happy I have this video of my time there to look back on.
